Twitter and Customer Service

“When used correctly, Twitter turns customer service into marketing.”

Collected thoughts from a Mashable employee:

If a customer complains, don’t just be their buddy and say: “That sucks, man.” Solve their problems.

You benefit from solving problems in public because you’re showing others that you care. If you’re a local restaurant, for example, and one person complains that your portions are too small: give them a coupon for a free meal. If lots of people complain about the same thing: maybe you have a real problem you should fix.

Dell actually uses Twitter complaints as a warning system: If several complaints appear, they know something is going wrong and can fix it in time.
